What if the Pokémon league was actually a sports league? What happens if you mix Pokémon & Medabots with Football Manager, Stardew Valley And Enter The Gungeon?

Borubots is a single-player, creature-collector where players catch, train and battle bots in intense twin-stick sports combat.

Spend your days exploring an open world, develop and upgrade your bots from young rookies to aging veterans as your team rises up through the Borubot leagues.

Like all the best sports teams, as the manager of Middlebot, you’ll need an ever-changing mix of youth and experience. Spend your days wisely to balance your training schedule and team finances, all whilst uncovering hidden secrets in the world.

To compete in the league you'll firstly need bots, which can be caught by beating them at "BotJack".

Weekly matches consist of intense twin-stick combat, using a variety of bots and weapon choices.

Explore an open world, day and night, between league matches. Manage your time, discover new bots in distant lands and meet other trainers to challenge.

Train and upgrade your ever changing team of bots from weak juniors to battle hardened, aging veterans.

While bots will grow and get stronger, they’ll eventually grow old and start to get weaker. You’ll need to constantly change your team to be at your best.

Win matches to gain fans and rise through the leagues.

Lose and see your fans turn against you as you fall down the tables, there’s no game over here.

Inspiration

The initial inspiration behind Borubots was “what if the Pokémon league was actually a sports league?”

I’ve always loved the nostalgia and excitement of creature-collector games like Pokémon and Medabots, but also wanted to make a non-linear, calendar driven game with the “just one more day” attitudes of games like Stardew Valley and Football manager.

Borubots was born from mixing these ideas, what if there could be a Pokemon-like game, but set in the ongoing fixture list and league tables of sport? Not only will you need to explore an open world, catch new bots and win battles against your rival teams, you’ll also need to manage your time and finances throughout the game week.

On Saturdays and Wednesdays your bots will be competing in twin-stick shooter sports combat against other teams in your league, but it’s up to you how to spend your other 5 days and night.

  • Will you search for new bots with unseen weaponry?

  • Will you train and upgrade you current Bots?

  • Will you discover new towns and caves and see how your locals can help you?

  • How will you manage your team finances and gain new fans?

All sport is inherently dramatic and unpredictable, teams go through highs and lows as they win or lose and try to climb up through the leagues, facing the jubilation of promotion or the heart break of relegation. The aim is to capture these ongoing and unpredictable emotions, in Borubots there’s no game over if you lose.

Inspired by sports, your Bots will age and grow stronger, but eventually grow too old and begin to weaken toward the end of their career…Players will need to constantly balance their team with a mix of youth and experience if they’re to stay competitive.
